Goths, Slavs, Byzantines, Bulgarians, Normans, Serbs, Turks - for centuries, they all attacked this city with its strategic location. All have conquered and temporarily occupied it, and all have left a unique legacy behind; a legacy that makes the Macedonian capital a charming amalgam of Balkan culture for which epithets are poor.
